Álváro Siza VIEIRA

Artist Profile

Álváro Siza Vieira, the world known grandmaster in the field of architect, was born in Portugal in 1933. Architectures designed by Siza are recognized by their stunning beautify of structural simplicity, accurate margin control and the harmonization with the surrounding. Siza always pursuits the accuracy and simplicity in his creations; as he always says: “What I appreciation and look for the most in architecture is clarity and simplism”.

In 1992, Siza was awarded the renowned with the Golden Lion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition at venice biennale for his renovation project in Lisbon. In his work, you can easily feel the harmony of the architecture and the surrounds. On the other hand, Siza always respects the historical and environmental factors; when he was constructing his architecture, he used pegmatite, which was obtained from the local site, to keep the harmony between artifacts and the nature.

Siza never stops his career of creations, he once mentioned” Architect is technician without expert.” As architecture construction requires knowledge from a wide range of sections, but not one single techniques in a specific field; thus, a wise perspective is a must for architects and they cannot be restricted by knowledge in a specific field.
